The Synchronized Swimming Team at the University of Richmond was formed in the mid-1960's. The team was originally called the Aquanettes and practiced only once a week.

Peg Hogan joined the University of Richmond in 1976 as a swimming instructor, and she started working with Richmond's synchronized swimming team that same year. By 1981, it was a varsity sport, and she led the team to second place in the U.S. Collegiate Championships in 1988.The team placed 2nd or 3rd in the country for the next several years.

Hogan coached nine All-American swimmers at Richmond. She was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2002 and Richmond's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004 (See picture below). Peg passed away in October of 2005.

In 2001, synchro at Richmond was moved from Varsity to Club status for a variety of reasons. The team has maintained the competitiveness, dedication and focus that has long been a tradition at Richmond. With an established coaching staff, the team has once again found the stability it had before its move to club status.
